BrandPlus
Researcher/Planner
Mohammad Reza Jafari-Fini

When first starting this project we all agreed on picking Oasis as the company we wanted to create a brand extension for because we all liked the drink a lot, but we were not sure on what we wanted to create for the brand. This is why we all came together and started making mood boards to discuss our options of what we wanted to look in to and what we could create. We came up with a whole list of ideas that we could create for Oasis such as flip-flops, smoothies and lollypops and many more.

However there was one brand extension, which really stood out to us, which was creating the Oasis waterpark. After showing our teachers are mood boards and discussing what we wanted to do they were really excited about the idea of the waterpark and told us to go ahead with it.

Picking which role we all individually wanted to do was actually very easy because we all wanted different roles from each other and didn’t argue on which role we wanted because none of us wanted the same role. My role was to be the researcher/planner, which I was very happy with picking as I enjoy it a lot because I find it very interesting and fascinating.

This is where my role as the research/planner began:

Oasis logo

When looking for the Oasis logo and the packaging on the drinks on the internet, I found many different shapes and forms it had.

Logo

Then there was the packaging on the drinks, which were different also.

Packaging

As you can see above these our 3 different bottles of the same flavoured Oasis and all 3 have a different style in their design on their packaging. Which was really confusing because I did not know which logo was the one in use and could not find any websites which could tell me which was the logo which is in use now. This is why I decided to go out to the shops myself and see what the logo on the drink was and how the packaging on the drink looked.

Every shop I went to had the same packaging as the Oasis bottle below and the same logo on the packaging as the logo below. To be extra safe I also went on the company website which was Coca Cola since that company owns it and saw that they were also using the same logo and bottle design as what I thought was correct.

I then realised that the other logo was used for Oasis light as you can see below.

Since we were not really interested in Oasis light or Oasis mighty drops we focused on the original Oasis.
 Different types of Oasis

Oasis Summer Fruits

Oasis Citrus Punch

Oasis Blackcurrant Apple

Oasis Mango Medley

Oasis Pineapple Rush

Oasis Light Peach and Passionfruit

Oasis Summer Fruits Light

Oasis Mighty Drops Mango Tropical

Oasis Mighty Drops Raspberry Lemonade
Oasis Mighty Drops Mixed Berry

Analysing Oasis

The logo

The Logo uses a bold white font, which is easily understandable by many people and instantly catches the eye. The colour white inside the word Oasis suggests that the drink is pure, light and awakening. The darker blue outline surrounding the letters gives the word Oasis a masculine feel with a sense of power to the word. Another important factor that I noticed was that the word ‘Oasis’ also always has a blue background giving it a peaceful image. These colours might have been used to take us back to the times we were on a holiday giving us that awakening, freshness feeling of when were in an exotic place. There is also a drop of liquid in the letter ‘O’ also in the colour white, which could represent many different things such as what ever is in the drink has been mixed and shacked together, because it looks as if the drop of liquid is not in one place and not just going to drop down to the bottom of the letter ‘O’ but actually going to swirl around the letter. Which also gives the logo a sense of motion and excitement. I really like this logo due to its simplicity and aesthetic appeal but mostly because of it’s ability to be so eye-catching.

Analysing the Oasis bottle

The picture below is not just for this Oasis flavoured bottle but all the Oasis bottles. The reasoning why I have not analysed each bottle is because they all have the same design but just use different fruits to express the flavour of their drink.

When looking at the bottle it uses clear strong graphics, which stand out. The logo on the bottle is bulky and large which instantly grabs your attention. It also uses a very simplistic font, which makes it easily understandable for many people. The use of the images of the fruit next to the logo on the packaging of the bottle instantly tells us what is in the drink and what we are going to taste. As you can see the fruit are spread out next to the logo and that there positioning on the bottle also gives the impression that the fruits are flying out of the liquid after the logo horizontally hits the wave. This gives the drink a sense of excitement and motion making it more playful and exciting. We know the liquid has been hit because it gives of a wavy effect upwards towards the logo making the bottle have more of an exciting effect.  I do not just think the logo has been placed horizontally to make that illustration work but it can also suggest that Oasis is trying to grab a young target audience because of its playfulness and excitement.

Usage of the logo

From what I have seen with this Oasis logo it seems that we are allowed to have it vertical and horizontal. On the other hand the Oasis light bottles also have a 90-degree angle positioning upwards. Which means we can use that to, when making our waterpark logo.

Colours we can use

Keeping it the same as the logo, which is blue and white. This is good for us as well since were doing a waterpark we can relate those two colours for example waves crashing out the word Oasis.

 Oasis company research

Oasis is the number one on the go juice drink in the UK.

The meaning of the word Oasis:

“A place in a desert where there is water and therefore plants and trees and sometimes a village or town”, quote from http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/british/oasis.

Target audience found on:

http://www.coca-cola.co.uk/press-centre/2012/february/oasis-gets-fruity-with-celebrity-juice-sponsorship.html

16-24 year olds.

Different sizes oasis comes in:

You can get Oasis in 500ml and 1.5L bottles as well as 6 x 375ml multipacks.

What time of day does the brand associate itself with?

Oasis associates itself with lunchtime foods; we can see this in posters in which it is advertised. The brand also has a very cheeky personality to it, which we see in video clips, which it is shamelessly flirting with foods such as salads, sandwiches, and jacket potatoes, which people normally have at lunch.

As you can see below these are some of the posters in which Oasis associates itself with lunch.

The video clip below is an Oasis advert, which plays out the ‘Oasis, it’ll go with anything’ tagline. The video also uses humour in which the Oasis bottle is flirting with an egg, which not only tells us that the company is cheeky but also lets us know that it’s humor used is intended for people at a young age which gives us a better idea on the target audience they are trying to grab.

The video clip can be found on,

In result of Oasis’s multi million pound campaign, “It'll go with anything” which includes TV, outdoor advertising and digital, as well as sampling to grab awareness of Oasis around Great Britain, which tries to put focus on Oasis particularly around lunchtime we have found out that 60% of the time when Oasis is consumed is during lunch time.

“Oasis is the number one indexing soft drink with sandwiches, and with a total of 10billion sandwich occasions annually, there is a huge opportunity for further growth.” This quote is from http://www.cokecce.co.uk/news-media/news-releases/2011/oasis-will-go-with-anything-this-summer-.aspx.

We also know Oasis is trying to be more healthy.

Oasis is trying to make its drink healthier by reducing the calorie content by 35%.

“Did you know? In recent years we changed our recipe for Oasis, reducing the drinks calorie content by 35 per cent. A 375ml bottle of Oasis contains between 66-68 calories, whilst our no-sugar alternative, Oasis Light, has only 13 calories.”

Ideas from my research, which will go towards the waterpark

Things we could do for our waterpark from this research is that because of the meaning of the word Oasis having an indoor Oasis waterpark in the middle of the city also gives of that effect. Plus in London due to the temperature it will be great having it indoors which also means it can be open all year round.

Since we know are target audience is from the ages of 16 to 24, I found out that at that age what people love doing is having an adrenaline rush and going nuts and just having fun, which is what me and my group wanted people to feel when they came to the waterpark.

Due to how Oasis associates itself with lunch, the waterpark could also have a feature where buying the ticket for the waterpark could also include a free small lunch with a sandwich, salad and an Oasis. This will not only help them advertise their company better but will also help them with their “It will go with anything” campaign. A cool feature, which came to mind, is that when you come in to the waterpark everyone gets one map and each map includes a cut out voucher for your free lunch and free Oasis.

Oasis is trying to promote a healthier life style by making its drink healthier by reducing its calorie content. The waterpark will promote being healthier due to the person having to swim around and run to rides and play different water park games.

Customer Research

After finding out all this information on the company Oasis, I wanted to get to know what people generally thought of Oasis and if they have even heard of it before. This is why I decided to make a questionnaire, which had six questions on it, which would help me understand the popularity of Oasis in the general public and other questions I wanted answered.

Thank you for taking part in this questionnaire

I decided to give this questionnaire out to 40 people who were in the age number of my target market and the results are below.

The results I received were that nearly everyone knew what Oasis was and the majority of people would buy it at a supermarket and then corner shop describing the taste of the drink in many different words but the two words that came up the most were fruity and refreshing. The majority of people would also have the drink around lunchtime. On the other hand what I thought was very interesting was the fact that the majority of people did not think it was suitable for all ages.

Which is why I wanted to find out why and this time only give twenty new questionnaires to twenty mums and dads who had children between the ages of 6 to 15 to see if they thought Oasis was suitable for their kids and if they have ever given them Oasis.

(This questionnaire will be specifically handed out to mothers and fathers only)

Questionnaire

When would you say your child is allowed to drink Oasis within the year?
(Please write your answer in the space below)

_________________________________________________________________________________

Thank you for taking part in this questionnaire

This simple questionnaire was handed out to ten mothers and ten fathers to give a fair result.

In general most people answered no, but they said they have given it to their child before. What I found interesting was that most of the parents said that they would give it to their child in special events such as birthdays or when they are invited to someone’s house or if they are being a good child.  From what the parents were saying Oasis sounded to me like it was a treat. Since me and my group were planning to build an Oasis waterpark I thought this related to it really well. By this I mean going to the Oasis waterpark is like treating your kid to something good.

From the research before we also realised that the meaning of the actual word Oasis would relate to having an indoor waterpark in the middle of the city where you wouldn’t normally expect there to be a waterpark.  Also since Oasis associates itself with lunch the waterpark could have a feature where when you buy the ticket to come in, the ticket includes a pack lunch (sandwich, Salad) and would also come with an Oasis drink.

I then reached the point where I thought I had a lot of information on Oasis and what the general public feel about it but I did not have any information about Oasis customers themselves and also the publics thoughts (Our target audience in the public) on how a waterpark could incorporate elements from Oasis and general research in to waterparks.
Which I why I decided to create a new questionnaire. This questionnaire was handed out to, only people who have been to a waterpark and who were in the target audience of Oasis, which are the ages of 16 to 24. Survey was done in London and planning to make this waterpark around London. So I went out on Oxford Street in London and asked people the following questions:

Questionnaire on waterpark

1) Do you enjoy going to waterparks?
(Please circle your answer)

Yes                      No

2) What is your top things to do in a waterpark?
(Please write your answer in the space below)

(Please circle your answer, if yes do not answer the next question)

Yes               No

6) If there were a waterpark around London would you consider going to it?
(Please circle your answer)

Yes                        No

7) Would the weather affect your diction on when you would go to a waterpark?
(Please circle your answer)

Yes                        No

8) Would you consider going to a waterpark at the right temperature?
(Please circle your answer)

Yes                     No

9) Have you ever been to an indoor waterpark?
(Please circle your answer below, if your answer is No there is no need to answer the next question)

Yes                      No

10) Would you be likely to go to an indoor waterpark near or in London?
(Please write your answer below)

Yes                      No

11) If Oasis were to make a waterpark list one thing you would expect to see in it?
(Please circle your answer)

Yes                       No

12) Would you go to a waterpark more often if it were to be open 7 days a week?
(Please circle your answer)

Yes                       No

Thank you for your time

Results

After considering what people thought in my questionnaire, I also added features I thought an Oasis waterpark could have . I also did some research in to different waterparks and looked at what a person could need and elements there that we can transform to make it more Oasis like and sent them to the designer of my team to design. The list below is what we can have in our Oasis waterpark:

Oasis towel and flip-flops

Oasis palm trees.
Each palm tree could represent a different flavoured Oasis drink. For example the Oasis Summer Fruits palm tree would have the fruits, which are in the drink hanging from the palm tree. Another cool feature could be that the each palm tree could have a water fountain effect at the bottom of the tree but instead of water it would have Oasis.

Oasis pool, but does not sound possible and safe.

Inflatable Oasis made gear for the waterpark to help kids with swimming

Oasis boats, which can be on the ride. The boat can be shaped as an Oasis bottle, which is half open.

Oasis coloured slides

Oasis spray guns, so when you are on a ride people can spray you with Oasis.

Tickets could come with free pack lunch, which includes lunch, and free Oasis drink.

Location

Since we already knew we wanted our Oasis water park to be indoors due to it relating to the actual meaning of the word Oasis we also knew that since it’s covered the waterpark would be open all year round because the weather wont be important anymore and the temperature will be controlled. In my mind I wanted the Oasis water park to be somewhere near or inside london and not near any water due to the meaning of the actual word Oasis. But since its expensive to have the land we require in london just being outside it, and not being near any streams, lakes or rivers was good enough. Since me and my group knew we wanted the waterpark near London we decided not to ask people about where we wanted the exact location to be because since the waterpark will take up a lot of space that is something that needs its own research but will not be done here because it will mean I would go way off topic.

I then decided to create a new questionnaire, which was handed out to 40 people about prices for the waterpark and opening and closing times.

How much would you expect a adult/child pay to get in a indoor water park?
(Please write your answer below)

Adult=                             Child=

What is a good time for the waterpark to open and close?
(Please circle your answer)

10am to 6pm                   10am to 9pm                  10am to 12am

Thank you for taking part in this questionnaire

In this questionnaire most people gave a price of £15 for adults and £10 for children, we took these values and what the customer wants to pay in to account but decided, that we should also do some research on different water parks and theme park pricings and see what people tend to pay there.

What I did now was research in to 5 different waterpark ticket prices to get an idea of what people pay to take in to account when pricing our water park tickets.

1) The first company I found was called, ‘Water world’ which gave a price of £11.49 and if your child was under 1.1 meters tall you would get a discounted offer of £8.49. But did not give a specific price for adults which either meant they were not allowed in or that the price was the same.

2) Sandcastle waterpark

Personally I think their method of pricing is to complicated and should just have two different names with two different prices.

3) Splash down waterparks

http://poole.splashdownwaterparks.co.uk/index.php/pages/prices_and_online_ordering.html

4) Blue lagoon waterparks

5) CALYPSO COVE WATERPARK

http://www.calypsocovewaterpark.org.uk/tickets-and-prices

After looking at all these prices from different waterparks I realised that the prices we received in our question were not far of at all. On the other hand some of the company’s did have a time requirement you can only be there. After looking at the prices of other competitors we thought it would be fair to say that the prices for are tickets would be:

Adult: £15

Child: £10

Family ticket of four including two children and two adults would be £40 giving them a £10 discount.

Since we already knew are ticket came with a free pack lunch which included a sandwich a salad and an Oasis, we wanted to add £2.50 on top of every ticket to still be making a profit. The final price of the ticket is:

Adult: £17.50

Child: £12.50

Family ticket of four including children and two adults would be £50 giving them £10 discount.

What I did not realise at all was that the waterparks I was looking at were very far away from London and land in those places are very cheap and also people in those particular areas are not willing to pay as much as people in London either.

This is why I decided looking at theme parks which had a similar target market to us.
Also another reason for looking at theme parks was because they were very close to London. When looking at the theme parks I was looking for their price ranges and how they valued their tickets.

1) Thorpe park

2) Chesington

http://www.chessington.com/plan/chessington-ticket-prices.aspx

3) Legoland

4) Alton Towers

https://www.altontowers.com/book-my-trip/tickets/#theme-park-tickets

These theme parks are all closer to London, meaning that they’re prices are more valid of what people would pay to go to. This is why I decided that these were going to be the new prices for the Oasis water park, which also included a free lunch including an Oasis. The reason why we picked these particular prices is because we felt it was in the competitor range of these theme parks and was something people would pay for.

Adult: £45

Child: £40

Children under four years free entry

Family tickets, which would have to include two adults and two children, would be at a rate of £150 giving a discount of £20.

Regarding the questionnaire prices I feel like since I did not tell people the location and size of the waterpark the answers they gave were very general and not thought through.

I decided to go out and ask people what they suggested we should price our tickets in the waterpark again, but this time clarifying that I will be by the company Oasis and the location will be in or around London. This was really just to get an idea of how much they would pay and then comparing them with my actual ticket prices.

This simple questionnaire was handed out to 40 people.

How much would you suggest an adult/child to pay at a big indoor Oasis made waterpark near or inside London?
(Please write your answer below)

Adult=______________________________

Child=______________________________

Thank you for your time

Results

The prices below in these charts are the prices which were written and came up in the questionnaire.

As you can see for the adult tickets I was right on the spot and got the price, which we were hoping people, would pay. On the other hand in the child ticket suggestion people went for £5 under what I suggested which in my opinion is close enough. Which made me very happy about our results and we were going to continue to keep the same prices as before.

We also wanted to make the age range for our tickets:

A child ticket is a person aged from 5 to 15.

A Adult ticket is a person aged from 16+.

Any person under the age of 5 will be in allowed for free but will have to be accompanied by a adult.

I decided to pick these age ranges for the tickets because I thought they were an ideal age range and also a competitive age range compared to some of my competitors.

Depending on how the business ran, special offers and the season the company was in, we knew the prices could and would probably change during the course of the year.

We also realised that many people wanted the waterpark to be open from 10am to 12am.  Which would give the opportunity for many people to come and go. This even had another positive factor about it which was that many fathers and young adults have to go work and attend schools so for it to be open till then gives them flexibility to come straight after work or school.

Waterpark research

Since me and my group wanted to build a waterpark for Oasis I started looking at different waterpark logos and different ways waterparks advertise on posters to see what can influence me and my group to design something great.

Water park logos

This logo has a very simple but yet smart and aesthetically pleasing look to it.  The font of the word ‘Wild Wadi’ has a playful wave type feel to it, which makes you relate it to the sea and a waterpark instantly and grabs a young audiences attention also. On the other hand they have also added a simpler but more sophisticated font where it says, ‘Water Park’ to also grab an older audiences attention. As you can see the colours used in this logo are also very relaxing and soothing which makes you want to go there. If you look at the tower behind the logo it has a slide effect, which turns in to a wave of water falling back on the slide.  The sun also uses a smart effect, it has been placed behind everything and positioned low with the top half being dark orange and the bottom half a yellow colour which is fading away, in to the imagery of the water and the writing which also looks to be as if it is made out of water. I think this effect has been done not only because it is aesthetically pleasing but because it makes the customer feel like the waterpark is at the right temperature and it wont be to hot or to cold to go there. Which in my opinion is a very subtle but smart way of grabbing your customer’s attention.

When looking at the logo what instantly grabs your attention is the large blue ‘Water Park’ sign, which is also in 3D, which gives it more of a liveliness and playfulness, feel.  The logo also tells us the location of the waterpark, which is in Blackpool and has a yellowish outline along the font, which makes the logo look more cheerful and good humoured and also helps us not avoid the writing. The logo also says ‘Sandcastle’ on it, which is the actual name of the waterpark and is a sandy yellow colour with a red coloured ribbon around the text, which adds enthusiasm to the word and also makes the logo look more exciting and motivating. All the text seems to be on top of palm trees with palm trees with their braches facing down which tells us that under the palm trees the waterpark can be hidden, which suggests that this waterpark is indoors which it is.  There is also another image to the right of all of this, which is of two children on an inflatable boat holding on tight and going fast downwards. We know the boat is moving due to the children’s hairs being up and the fast motion lines and the water spreading everywhere with a sharp speedy feature.  This image adds the extra element to the logo of playfulness and excitement to the logo, which helps target a younger audience when looked at.

This logo tells us a fact and also tells us a little more about the waterpark underneath that, telling us it’s indoors and it’s the UK’s number 1 waterpark. The writing for all this is in a yellow colour that brings out cheerfulness but with a black outline that gives of a sign of comfort and protection. The main thing which pops in to you face when you look at this is, ‘Water World’ this is because it is larger than anything else on the logo and uses a bright yellow in the font with a red outline to grab the audiences attention. The bright yellow in the text gives the logo optimism and cheerfulness and the red outline around it helps it look more powerful and energizing. The font which the text is written in is very playful which helps bring out the idea of the waterpark but personally to me also looks a bit scary due to the sharp edges on the ‘W’ in the word, ‘World’. The logo also uses a simple circular shape around the words ‘Water World’ which to me looks as if it can be a ride. This due to its slanted positioning and the fact at one side of its white inside and at one side of it, it gets very dark and there is also an illustration of a splash.

In general I do not like this logo because I feel like it’s too simple and has an old raggedy aesthetic appeal to it that I do not like.

This logo is very simplistic but very eye catching; it uses two splashes, like puddles with the colours red and blue, which contrast well together. The blue gives of a soothing and relaxed feeling whilst the red makes it stand out to be more powerful and confident. What this company has done is put on top one word for each splash but reverse the colour, to the splash underneath to the colour of the splash opposite.  The font of the text is in a very bulky and large but is very simple and easily understandable. The ‘n’ in the middle positioned in a way which it is not getting in the way of anything important and is white in a black circle with a white outline. The reason why they have used the colours black and white for this is because the black gives it a stronger and mysterious look whilst the white adds the purity and cleanliness to the logo and the waterpark.

When I first looked at the logo above without looking at the ‘WATERPARKS’ sign I thought the logo was for a bag of crisps. In my opinion the logo does grab someone’s attention when looked at, and that might only be because of the red and the white outline in the word ‘Splashdown’. The red gives the logo a more powerful look and the white adds purity to it also. There is also a circular yellow shape behind all of this, which adds optimism to the logo. The drops of water giving the illusion that they’re coming out toward the viewer is a very nice effect but in this logo it docent seem to show that they’re drops of water that clearly. The font used in the word ‘Splashdown’ is playful whilst on the other hand the font in the word ‘WATERPARKS’ is very simple and bold and uses white inside to give it that purity. This could have been done so it would be easily readable and understandable by a wide audience. The image at the back of the logo seems to be a pool but is not clear enough. I personally do not like this logo at all because it is not energetic enough to make people want to come also the use of too much blue has made it to relaxing and made it look more appealing for a logo for a spa.

This logo has a very aesthetically pleasing look. It uses an image of a splash with the word splash in a darker blue on top to justify its point on top. The font for the word ‘splash’ also looks very playful making the waterpark look very fun. The logo also uses an image of a palm tree and the sun behind it, this is to make the person feel like he’s in a summer like location when he is at the waterpark which also brings out the feelings of relaxation and joy back in to play. The word ‘BIG’ has been placed above everything else and in large bulky writing to grab the audience’s attention and to yet again justify its point. The reason the word ‘BIG’ is in the colour pink is to suggest warmth, calming and sweetness when you’re at the waterpark. At the bottom of the logo it also says ‘adventure’ in a subtle way but uses the colour orange to bring it out in a confident and enthusiastic way. The font used in this has also been done in a very mysterious way bringing out the word adventure in the word.

Looking at these logos I feel like are logo definitely needs to include an image such as a wave crashing through the logo or even around the logo to give that waterpark effect. This will help portray the logo as a playful and cheerful place, which is what we are trying to portray. In terms of colour I feel like having colours, which make you think of summer, is definitely the way to go. Also making elements, which are important stand out more than others is also a very important thing to be thinking about when designing our waterpark Oasis logo. The font we should use for our text in the logo should also be very friendly and playful yet easily understandable to grab the young target market audiences attention.

Waterpark Posters

When researching for waterpark posters I couldn’t find much in fact the only ones I found that were not pixelated were these two.

In general looking at these posters there’s two way of going about this one is having a professional business look on to it as you can see. And then there’s the poster underneath, which uses humour and excitement to grab the audience’s attention.

Waterpark maps

I also looked in to waterpark maps to get influence and find similarities for our designer to get influence and create our water park map.

The similarities I found between waterpark maps including the ones above is that they all seem to be designed to look like an island. This is to put more focus on the waterpark and nothing else surrounding it to make you feel like you are actually away from everything making you feel like your free and giving you escapism. They all also seem to have labels on which tell you what is what in the map. the logo of the waterpark is also always on the map to not make you not forget at which waterpark you are at. In the maps there also seems to be a lot of trees and streams of water which give that summer feel. Most of the maps I have seen have a cartoonish feel to them and are also very bright. This is to grab the target markets attention which is young kids, teenagers and young adults, and not only that but make it more exciting and more joyful to look at. I feel like are map needs the same features as we have a similar target market and because it also works with our brand as well as still keeping that pleasing aesthetic look to it.

How should we have Oasis advertised?

Since Oasis was a cheeky brand as we saw in the “It’ll go with anything” advert I think it was best to go with something humours like the poster on the right but also be cheeky and playful at the same time and still maintain a good aesthetic appeal.

After researching in to how waterparks were advertised on posters I realised that, that wasn’t the main way they advertised. The way waterparks advertised the most was by being on the web or either on brochures.

Waterpark brochures

What I generally learnt from looking at these waterpark brochures is that they all seem to include and what I think is important to have are:

Prices
Special offers
Contact details
The colour blue to give that relaxation feeling which you can relate to when you think of water.
Exciting images/gallery of what the waterpark looks like
Images of what we are trying to portray so even though it’s indoors we still want to have for example palm trees and waves on the brochure to give that summer feel.
Slogans
Key points/Features

All the above is things we need in our brochure to.

Website designs for water parks

Website designs are pretty much the same as they have the same points I mentioned above.

As you can see the website designs are basically have the same content as the brochures but with a little extra detail. Having a website also allows you to watch videos of the waterpark and buy your tickets online.

Another way of advertising for the waterpark is to have special offers. When doing my research in to different special offers and discounts companies give, I realised that a smart way of self promoting Oasis and the waterpark is to have special codes on the bottles which you have to rub of with a coin to get the code to show. After getting the code you should take the code to a Oasis reward website where you can put it in and see what you have won and be able to get a discount on at the next time you visit Oasis water park.

The rewards you can win could be:

A buy one get one free ticket to the waterpark with your code.

Half price at your next visit to the Oasis waterpark.

Or even get a free ticket to the Oasis water park.

Waterpark tickets

Generally speaking waterpark tickets or tickets to do with anything, all look the same if you book online you get a print out sheet of paper and if you buy the ticket there you may or may not get something interesting or colourful. I then bumped in to this, which I found interesting and influenced me in to something our designer could do when designing the tickets.

When looking at Uncle Ben’s waterpark tickets above I saw how each ticket is in a different colourful colour. Which reminded me of the different flavoured drinks could represent different tickets. Another idea, which came to mind, was that since Oasis is a cheeky and funny company we could also have a joke behind each ticket with the answer below it upside down. The jokes would be suitable for all ages and would be like the jokes you see when you open a firecracker at Christmas.

I told my group the idea and they agreed with the coloured flavoured of the drinks for the different tickets but were not sure about the joke as they thought it could go easily wrong.

Assigning the flavour of the drink to the ticket

I assigned the Oasis Summer Fruits for the adult and the Oasis Citrus Punch for the child.

The reasoning behind this is because the colour red in the summer fruit flavour in my opinion is a bit more aggressive and the children might not like it, which is why I decided to give the yellow one to the children.

Presentation research

Presenting our presentation for the class and our teachers is one of the most important factors in this whole project, because it’s our time to tell our class and tutors our business idea and what we have been working on this whole time.

The research below is all from http://www.wikihow.com/Prepare-a-Professional-Presentation and they have been put in quotes so you know which ones have been taken from this website.

“While preparing a presentation there are certain basic guiding principals:

   Make it simple.

   Make it clear.

Don’t let the technology dominate the presentation. You want the audience to remember the quality of your research, not your PowerPoint wizardry.”

“We need to take certain points in consideration, while preparing the presentation:

What are the key points you want to make?

   Who is your audience?

What are they interested in hearing?

How familiar are they, with your topic? Do they expect data or concepts?”

“Remember: A presentation is different than a paper. Don’t try to cover everything.”

“Resources of information is key to success. We must think on ::

What will you cover, what can be eliminated?

How much detail do you need? (Remember, your time and your audience’s attention are limited. For any part of your presentation, ask yourself “So what?”)”

“Logistics to be taken care of:

How big is the hall where you will be speaking?

How much time will you be given?

What time of day is your talk?

Carefully consider if you will depend on anyone else for producing your presentation—allow plenty of lead time.”

“Equipment Needs should also be taken care-of:

Ask what you will be given and what you must bring with you.

Consider all equipment you will need

                        Internet connection

                        Computer

                        Microphone

               Software”

“Be prepared for a chalk talk because you never know if/when there will be technical problems.”

“Organise the Material Introduction:

Time to sell your idea or research.

Answer the question, “Why should I listen to you?”
Establish your personal credibility.”

“Organise the Material Body
Make sure you cover your main points.
Be concrete. Use examples, statistics, reiteration, comparison.”

“Organise the Material Conclusion.
   Give a summary.
Emphasise the most important points”

“Format Of Presentation:
For a presentation in a dark room, choose a dark background with light letters.
When making slides, use a light background and dark letters.
   Use a big enough font.
Pick a style and stick with it.
   Keep it short, especially titles.
   Leave empty space. Presenting Data
Make data/results the focus of your presentation.
Don’t try to include all data
Use handouts for detailed information, or refer the audience to a website.
Use color or special effects sparingly and consistently.”

“Practise several times before delivering the actual presentation.”

Ideas we have for our presentation

For our presentation I have decided that we should all wear Hawaiian shirts, shorts and flip-flops to really give that summer feel of when you’re on vacation and next to the beach. I also think we should have rubber ducks around us or something funny like that to show that our brand is cheeky and funny.

In terms of our set up we should have plastic cups with different Oasis flavours inside to bring people in to the mood and setting we want them to be in with our drink. Due to our time span we cannot create a model of the waterpark to have on the table for people to look at but we will have brochures, posters and hopefully have a concept web site up and running for our idea for the company. It will also be a good idea to add pretend palm trees next to our table which we will be presenting at, to give that summer exotic feel. Another great idea would be if we could some how get the palm trees to cover us to create that over head cover effect to make it feel like were indoors to portray what we are trying to do.

We ordered two of these inflatable palm trees from Amazon:

These were the type of Hawaiian looking shirts we wanted because we wanted to give of that summer feel but there were no specific Hawaiian shirts we were looking for but we were looking for hawaiian shirts with different colours which would represent the different fruits in the drink.

After looking for Hawaiian shirts we realised it was harder to find them then we thought especially since we are not in the correct season for it right now as it is winter. Which is why we just decided to wear summery clothing which you would wear on the way to the beach or swimming pool. So basically what I had to wear now was shorts, a t-shirt and summery shoes or flip flops.

The Oasis waterpark logo

As I had finished my research in to Oasis and waterparks, Hannah in my group was the person who was going to design the logo. In order for her to do this, she looked at my research and spoke to me for advice and to the other members in my group also. After seeing loads of different versions of how we can have the logo from her, we all decided in the end that we preferred the logo below.

The reason why I really like this logo for our waterpark is because I feel like it has a very aesthetically pleasing look to it and still maintains it whilst being very simple. I feel like the splashes along side the puddle gives the logo a sense of motion and excitement and makes the logo feel more playful. The red inflatable ring underneath the word, ‘ Oasis’ also helps tell the audience what the logo is about instantly and helps us have a clearer vision of the logo. What I also really like about the logo is the fact that you can see the shadow of the inflatable red ring in the water and of the word ‘Oasis’ in the water with a sizzled effect. Which gives it a great sense of detail and realism and really makes the logo come alive. The font, which is also used in the word ‘THE’ in the logo also has the same type of lettering as the actual Oasis logo, which is the white inside and the outline of the letter being blue. This helps relate to the actual Oasis logo and makes the word ‘THE’ feel more at home and not out of place.

We also have our logo with a slogan

Our final logo is the one without the slogan reason being when the logo is made smaller the slogan will not be readable. So instead the logo will just be added to the bottom of marketing with the slogan next to it.

Now that we had our final logo for our brand extension I decided that we should test our design that we have done for the waterpark on the public to see what they also think. In order to do this I created a new simple questionnaire, which is below. When asking the questions for this questionnaire to the public I wanted to know what they thought the logo was for as soon as they saw it. The questionnaire was handed out to forty people who were in our target audience of 16 to 24 years old. If the target audience don’t like the logo then there will be no point of giving it to a wider audience who may dislike Oasis.

Questionnaire

1) When you see the logo below what do you think it is for?
(Please write your answer in the space below)

_________________________________________________________________________________

Thank you for your time

After getting the results for the questionnaire I was very happy with our design for the logo as a huge amount of people thought it was for a water park but there were two people who said that they thought that the logo was for a swimming pool. Since it was only two people who had said this we decided to keep our logo the way it is.

After getting these results I decided to give the same questionnaire out to a wider age range of people to see what they thought also.

The results on this questionnaire were great also because everyone thought it was for a waterpark but there were also four people who thought it was for a swimming pool also but it doesn’t really matter since it was only four out of forty.

Recreating the logo again

Unfortunately we had to do the logo again which meant the logo above did not count anymore due to the fact that Hannah in our team had done it which was suppose to be Jakes role, which is why we forgot about that logo and Jake started creating the new logo whilst still considering what was in my research. Even though he was creating the logo this time, me and the rest of the group still gave him advise on different things to create the new logo. The new logo:

Personally I prefer this logo more to the last logo because I feel like it gives a much better waterpark feel than the last one as the last one did look a bit like it could be for a swimming pool. The main reasoning behind this is because this new logo uses a yellow slide with water flowing through it, which also has a speedy type of motion to the water due to the water looking spiky in some parts and also comes of the slide which gives it the illusion that the water is flowing very fast. The colour choice of the slide being yellow is also very smart because the colour yellow represents joy, warmth, cheerfulness and energy. Another great feature to this new logo which the last one did not have was a palm tree. The reason why this palm tree is such a great feature is not just because of its aesthetic appeal but because it also tells people that our waterpark is indoors due to the fact that the palm tree is tilted over the logo and the leaves are covering mostly everything on top. If you look at either end of the word Oasis in the logo you can also see the splash of water coming out next to it. This makes the logo very playful and also suggests that the waterpark is full of energy and also makes it look like the word Oasis splashed in to the pool. In this new logo we have also changed the positioning of the word 'the' in the logo bringing it next to the word Oasis and have also changed the font in to a very similar font Oasis use which in my opinion looks much better and makes the logo flow better.

Research in to info graphics for my final piece

When researching for infographics I already knew what infographics were, but did not really realise the impact it had on data collection and the many ways in which you could do it. When we had a lecture in class about info graphics we saw a video in which a man called David McCandless talks about the data visualisation and info graphics and so on. I decided to watch this video again and again to get a clear understanding of how he would visualise the data he collected.

I then decided to go look at different infographics myself to see different examples.

When looking in to different infographics I realised how much it helped make data and research look interesting and at the same time, aesthetically pleasing to look at. Not only that but it made complex research and data look clearer and easier to understand. When looking at the different images above you can see how the use of imagery and the colours and layout are all eye catching and make you want to look at them even more.

A few other reasons why infographics area great way to present research and data is because:

"Almost 50% of your brain is involved in visual processing."

"Researchers found that colour visuals increase the willingness to read by 80%."

"We can get the sense of a visual scene in less than 1/10 of a second."

The three quotes above are all from this website: www.neomam.com/interactive/13reasons/
But that is not just it there are many more reasons why infographics are so great and successful.

Physical infographics

In my research I also realised that we have physical infographics.

These images were taken from:
http://www.galaxyninja.com/2013/12/21-best-real-life-infographics/

"We can call them ‘physical infographics’ or ‘real world visualization’ as well. They visualize data with real objects, often combined with typography. Real Life Infographics are different than other inforgraphics in that they rely much more on photographs instead of a purely digital medium." This quote is from http://www.galaxyninja.com/2013/12/21-best-real-life-infographics/

Personally I feel like physical inforgraphics are more attractive and use a more creative way to present your data and information. Which has influenced me to try and create physical infographics, my self for my research. The research/data which will be going in my phyiscal infographics will just be data/research which will help the idea of creating an Oasis waterpark. Due to the large amount of research and data I have, I will only be putting important data in there or just a few important points from my research.

The research I decided to use was from one of my questionnaires. The questions i decided to answer in my final piece were the following:

1) Have you ever been to a waterpark in the UK?

2) If there were a waterpark around London would you consider going to it?

3) Would the weather affect your diction on when you would go to a waterpark?

4) Would you consider going to a waterpark at the right temperature?

5) Would you be likely to go to an indoor waterpark near or in London?

Due to the large amount of research I had, it was hard picking the research I wanted to put in my final piece. The research I decided to put in there was going to be about the weather and how we came up with the idea of having an indoor waterpark near or in London.

When designing my final piece I had various ideas but the one that I liked the most was to get all five flavoured bottles of Oasis and use the fruit that you taste in each bottle to show my percentages. I also could have done this by just using the drink inside the bottle to show my percentage but I felt like that was not a creative way I could approach this and I also feel like it will not have the same eye catching and aesthetically pleasing impact compared to the idea of using fruits.

So the first thing I did was find out what fruit you taste when you drink the different flavoured Oasis drinks. By doing this I went on the ingredients on each bottle and found out what the fruit juice from concentrate of each bottle was. For example the flavour Summer Fruit had the fruit juices from concentrates apple, strawberry, redcurrant and cherry which is all the fruits you would taste in the drink when you have it.

So I made a list and put all the fruits that each bottle needed down and the percentages.

After getting all the fruit I needed down on paper, I went out to go buy all of them and brought them to my kitchen to start creating my final piece.

Afterwards I put each individual fruit together with the flavour it was meant to be with and at the correct percentage I wanted it to be at to represent the different points I was trying to make.

I then put two white pieces of card together to get a professional picture of them together in the same order as the questions I put up. I took several pictures of them in different positions and these are just two of them.

After picking the final image which I wanted to use which is the one below I decided to start adding the percentages

I decided to keep my percentages above the bottle as I feel like it gives it a good aesthetic look to it plus if I had them on the bottle it would cover the fruits on the last bottle with the highest percentage which I didn't want to happen. The reason behind the font I used for the text and the percentages was because it is very similar to the Oasis font which really gives the image of Oasis and also the feel which is what I wanted.

Then I started adding the text at the bottom

After adding all the text, I used the same font as the percentage because of the same reasoning above. I then placed everything where I wanted it and this was my outcome.

I was really happy with the outcome I had but felt like it was missing something. When looking at the image it looked really plain and also didn't feel like it was sharp enough on the screen which is why I decided to edit the photo by changing the exposure and brightness and a few other things to create my final piece which is below.

When starting to think of a final piece I had no idea that this was how my outcome was going to look due to the fact that I had various ideas but didn't test every single one out to see which looked best. I'm very happy with my final piece as I feel like it is very aesthetically pleasing and is also very eye catching. I also feel like it is very simplistic and easy to understand when looked at, which is good because that is what I feel infographics is all about.

Evaluation

My role in this project was the researcher/planner, which I was very happy with being. When first starting this project we thought that it would be very hard to contact each other due to the fact that most of the project was over the Christmas holidays and that we wouldn’t be able to see each other. Although we had this problem in my group we had a WhatsApp group, which we used to communicate with each other whenever we needed help from one another or if we just needed to just ask each other questions about our work. We also had a Google drive in our group, which meant that whenever someone did a piece of work they would upload it on to the Google drive and everyone would be able to see their work. Although we had a Google drive I personally used a blog because it was easier for me to upload work and edit work and people could also see what I was doing by just going on my blog link.

Working as a group was easy because we all seemed to agree on something together and would never argue about anything and got along just well. On the other hand there were misunderstandings in the group but were resolved soon after.  As the researcher in this group I found that Oasis did not have a lot of information on their brand so I had to dig deep to get the information I needed. I also used questionnaires to find out more about the brand and what the target market thought about the brand and so on. I did not just do research and questionnaires on the brand itself but also on waterparks which helped me and my group members understand the brand better and also understand waterparks better.

When creating my final piece, I had a lot of research I could of put on but I did not want to cover a page with several different points I was trying to make. Which is why I picked one point from my research, which was, why me and my group wanted it to be an indoor waterpark. I did this by using all the five different flavoured Oasis bottles with the correct fruits that the individual flavoured Oasis drinks tasted like and putting the fruits in the correct bottle to represent different percentages of my findings. When finishing my final piece I was very happy with its result as I feel like it was very simple but clear and very aesthetically pleasing.

In conclusion I really enjoyed this project because I found it very interesting and useful for the future. Not only did I learn a lot about Oasis and waterparks I also learnt how to build my teamwork skills, improve my communication skills and developed my researching skills and learnt how to work at a faster pace.
